Review: Almost Famous – Leeds

As I had a meeting in Leeds I decided to meet Mr CK for lunch. He chose the venue – Almost Famous as he had been wanting to try their burgers for a while.

We were seated quickly in a little booth which had a quirky, sweetie filled glass topped table. The venue is quite dark and cold, I am imagining that in the evening it feels quite different. I was not a fan of the decor, but we were there to eat, not admire the scenery. Drinks orders taken we were left to decide what we wanted to eat.

I settled on the Awesome Frickin Chicken – Crispy buttermilk fried chicken, iceberg lettuce, mayo, trailer trash onions, peppercorn sauce -£8.50 and Mr chose GOOD MORNING AMERICA – Cheese, sausage patty, streaky bacon, JD maple Wonderdust, Cheerios, poached egg, Bacon Bacon mayo, Winning ketchup, strawberry Pop Tart – £10.50 and we decided to share Winning Fries – Skin on & sweet potato fries -£2.50.

The burger – I am told it was very good, the bacon bacon mayo was tangy and took some getting used to, but everything else was excellent.

My chicken burger, moist, great crunchy coating, a little peppery kick, it was good. I’d have preferred a hot sauce or something spicier with it.

The fries, perfectly crispy and piping hot. Delicious.

To drink Mr had a Tommy and Fitz -Casco Viejo Tequila, Solerno Blood Orange Liqueur, Mr Fitzpatrick’s Blood Tonic Cordial,Orange Sherbet,Lime, he liked it a lot, but it was too sweet for me. I had the Gin Floozie – Bombay Sapphire Gin, Grapefruit Liqueur,
Peach Bitters, Lemon, Club Soda, Orgeat. I really enjoyed it, the gin was subtle and it was a very refreshing drink. Both cocktails were £7.50.

Service was friendly and efficient and the food was above average. Would we go again? Yes, but we will not be rushing back.
